Volkmar is among the most decorated creatives in austria. He has received 14 Lions at Cannes, including 4 golds and the only golden Design-Lion for Austria to this day. In total, he has won over 250 national and international awards and honors.
Just as Volkmar was about to have this photo taken with some friends from Japan by the Photographer Daniel Gebhard de Koekoek, a red hot air balloon floated by at an incredible speed. These racing hot air balloons, they seem to be getting worse every time.
Volkmar was born in Regensburg in 1975 and studied graphic design and communication design in Munich. He began his career in the year 2000 as a graphic designer at Jung von Matt/Isar in Munich. After 2 years he moved to Hamburg to work at Jung von Matt/Alster. Later, he became an art director at Scholz & Friends in Berlin. From 2006 to 2011, he worked as a creative director at Jung von Matt/Donau in Vienna. In 2011, he founded his own design agency, BUREAU WEISS. 2012, he returned to Jung von Matt and was the managing director/creation until 2016. From 2016 to 2019, he worked as the managing director at moodley brand identity in Vienna. Since 2019, Volkmar has been working independently. He is a member of the CCA and ADC Europe. His work has been recognized with numerous national and international creative awards, including a Cannes Gold Lion in the Design category for "Gut Oggau" and 4 Gold Lions for the image film "Inferno" for the Austrian weekly newspaper "Falter". He has also received 3 Gold Nails at the ADC, a golden Pencil at the One Show, and Gold at the ADC New York. In total, he has received over 250 national and international awards and honors. His award-winning work for Gut Oggau was featured in the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, the MOMASF, in November 2010. In 2015, this work was showcased in the exhibition "A Taste Of Austrian Design And Lifestyle" in Stockholm. He has worked as a guest lecturer at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences in the field of multimedia design, at the Werbeakademie in Vienna, and at the University of Art and Industrial Design in Linz. Volkmar has two children and lives with his wife and children in Krumau am Kamp in the Waldviertel of Austria.
